Why is Comprehension Important?A child with strong comprehension identifies with characters, is aware of story structure, and is able to make predictions about what will happen next in stories. Children with good listening comprehension enjoy books and are motivated to learn to read. How Does This Program Build Comprehension? In each class, the teacher reads a great picture book aloud and talks about characters, events and illustrations to build comprehension. As children listen and respond, they learn to enter into the world of the book, identifying with characters, following story development, and making predictions about what will happen next. You and your child will also participate in enjoyable book enrichment activities, such as acting out part of a story, that deepen a child's understanding of the story. As a result, your child will develop strong comprehension and a deep connection with books. |
